The new big swinging bomb show that has swept the sport of golf in recent months had its first MAJOR validation at Winged Foot. On the eve of the tournament starting Dechambeau teased ‘Even if i hit it in the rough, I still feel like i can make birdies out there.’ Fast Forward 4 days and we have a new US Open champion who did exactly what he set out to do.

Was it just bombs all week?

Most people think Bryson just bombed his way around Wing Foot, as that’s easy to assume right? However if we look closer at the stats he picked up 5.38 shots off the tee (3rd in the field). But he really took it to the next level where he backed it up with shots gained on the approach and around the green. He was 6.98 (3rd) approach and 5.43 (2nd) around the green.

So should we be reducing Bryson’s performance to just his driving distances? Absolutely not. He is the complete package and was the only player to shoot under par on Sunday while doing it.
